Four years ago I promised voters that I would put the "public" back in the public schools, and I have kept that promise.
Gilroyans want a school system that delivers a quality education, and I have worked diligently to improve academic achievement.
A Gilroy resident since 1986, I have four children who graduated from Gilroy High School. For 20 years, I volunteered in classrooms, and served on parent clubs.
On the school board, I have championed policies that protect instructional time and advocated for the arts and physical education. As Board President, I have formed strong bonds with city government and civic groups and rallied them behind our causes.
Since 2004, overall district test scores have steadily improved, and two schools have been designated California Distinguished Schools. New programs, such as dual immersion, an early college academy, and Advanced Path, have been adopted to meet specific student needs. New facilities and needed renovations have been constructed, and the opening of Christopher High School is on the horizon.
A lot has been accomplished, but there is so much still left to do. I am passionately committed to building a school district that enables all students to reach their fullest potential.
